COMMENTARY
Derby day is a time for any club’s senior stars to stand up and be counted but the Manchester United supporters were left wishing Chris Smalling did not turn up at all for their clash against Manchester City on Wednesday evening. The English international looked out of sorts from the first minute and the rest of the first half did not get much better for him. His passing was all over the shop and he even almost netted an own goal with a rash decision to stick a leg out at a speculative shot from the visitors to Old Trafford. He is never been everyone’s cup of tea at United but considering what was on the line for the club on Wednesday – both bragging rights and a vital three points for a top four finish – he should have been able to up his performance. Instead, he left the supporters feeling the same way they have done for some time and you know it is bad when they are calling for Phil Jones instead.
This is Futbol has gathered a selection of the fuming Old Trafford faithful’s tweets:

Smalling should never be our Central defender! 0 composure. It's like he is a baby
