Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is plotting an ambitious move to reunite with three young talents from Liverpool this summer, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football news outlet claim that the Gers boss, who has worked with Kent at Ibrox this season and Woodburn and Jones during his time as a coach at the Reds’ academy, is keen to utilise the contacts he has at Anfield to try and recruit the 22, 19 and 18-year-olds either on loan or permanently.

However, it is said that Gerrard’s plan is an ambitious one as he recognises it is unrealistic to expect all three to make the move north of the border, especially if Kent, who is believed to be out of the Light Blues’ price range, is to be sold instead of loaned out this summer.

Opinion

Gerrard’s history and legacy at Liverpool means they are always going to pick up the phone to him, but that does not mean they will accept what he is looking for in terms of transfers. Kent have proven his worth at Ibrox this summer in what has proven to be a double edged sword for the club, his fine performances seemingly pushing his asking price out of Rangers’ reach. As for Woodburn and Jones, they are both talented but raw footballers and are not the sort of player who is going to make the ultimate difference at Ibrox. Gerrard needs more than young and prodigious talent if the Gers are going to catch up with Celtic next summer – he should be eyeing up experience and proven talent too. Still, he knows the trio as well as anyone, having helped in their development as a coach at Anfield, and if he believes they are ready then the club have got to trust him. After all, he has not done too badly this year.
