OPINION

Everton no doubt had one of their best results of the season by destroying Manchester United 4-0 on Sunday.

Gylfi Sigurdsson, Theo Walcott, Richarlison and Lucas Digne completed the rout in a masterclass from the Toffees at Goodison Park, and Marco Silva is no doubt grinning from ear to ear after the result.

Everton face Crystal Palace next Saturday, and they will certainly be full of confidence heading into the match – however, Silva would have learned a few things about his team after the thrashing.

Here, This is Futbol has rounded up the three things learned about Everton’s win against United:

Sigurdsson looked completely transformed

Sigurdsson scored an absolute peach of a goal against the Red Devils from long range on Sunday, a display that is a far cry from the woeful one in the defeat to Fulham last weekend. Here, the 29-year-old practically erased those memories from the minds of every Everton supporter, as he could not have impressed more if he tried. The 6ft 1in [Transfermarkt] player’s goal was just the icing on the cake for what was an astonishing afternoon for the Toffees.

Silva is definitely staying

Marco Silva is definitely staying after this mind-blowing performance from his team. There was a stage of the season where many of the fans were no doubt calling for him to be sacked – the loss to Millwall in the FA Cup may have been the trigger – but things could not be more different if they tried. He has completely turned it around for Everton, picking them up when they were at their worst.

Defence were hardly troubled

Everton’s defence had a relatively quiet afternoon, didn’t they? Marcus Rashford spurned the away side’s best chance of the game after his lob sailed over Jordan Pickford’s crossbar, but other than that, they did not have much to do. Silva was no doubt very content with this scenario, and it shows just how much the Toffees have improved in attack if their back four were merely spectators.
