Alan Smith heaped praise on Everton defender Lucas Digne for his display in the 4-0 win over Manchester United.

The Sky Sports pundit gushed about the 25-year-old’s ability to get up and down the pitch, while almost remaining defensively solid at the back for the Toffees.

Smith seemed in particularly impressed with the “engine” Digne had on him and also highlighted that he normally delivered the goods after a surging run forward.

“He gets up and down and there’s an end product when he does,” said Smith while commentating on the Toffees’ 4-0 win over Manchester United (Sky Sports Main Event, 15:12, Sunday April 21st).

“Defensively he is solid and he has got some engine on him.”

OPINION

Marco Silva’s side were on fire against Man United on Sunday and several players impressed. In fact when it came to choosing his Man of the Match, Smith seemed to be debating amongst himself as he was spoilt for choice. While the pundit ending up picking Gylfi Sigurdsson to be his MOTM, that doesn’t mean Digne doesn’t deserve the spotlight. The 25-year-old left-back was a force going forward and hardly had to break a sweat when Man United had a rare opportunity to push forward. It’s also no surprise that Smith was effectively stunned by Digne’s latest display as he just kept running throughout.  While Digne didn’t get the elusive Man of the Match award, it was good to see his efforts rewarded with a goal during the match. The left-back has now scored four goals this season and racked up five assists as well, and you feel he’ll probably add to those totals in the games that remain.
