OPINION
Lucas Digne has really endeared himself to Everton fans in his first season in England. The full-back has quickly established himself as one of the finest players in his position in the league, and he backed up the notion with another stellar performance against Manchester United on Sunday. The icing on the cake was his stunning, swerving strike from stance to make the game 3-0, but from the first whistle he looked hungry and keen, and he caused United all sorts of problems down the left-hand side. His willingness to drive on and create the overlap looked dangerous throughout. Add to that the fact that he boasts a wicked whipped delivery from his left boot, and it’s easy to see why Toffees fans are so delighted with him. It was another feature of his game that had many purring though. On several occasions, Digne hurled in monstrous long throws that really caused havoc in the Man United ranks, and the Blues couldn’t get enough. Whether it was his excellence or United’s incompetence that really made them work is hard to say, but it proved to be a vital weapon in a much needed 4-0 win. He picked up a late knock that will have Everton fans worried, but otherwise it was fantastic outing for the Frenchman. Digne has been so good that there will no doubt be interest in him over the summer, but if Everton can hang on to him, they will have kept hold of one of the brightest full-backs in England.
