OPINION
Dominic Calvert Lewin is really coming into his own. The 22-year-old spent a fair amount of time trying to force his way into Marco Silva’s plans, but the manner in which he has stepped over the past few weeks must have convinced his manager that he has finally matured enough to be Everton’s undisputed number one striking option. He is a robust, athletic centre-forward, very much in the mould of some of the iconic, old school strikers who have graced the Goodison turf down the years, and he showed his quality again on Sunday afternoon with a fine first half performance against Manchester United. The English youth international was practically everywhere in the opening exchanges, showing for balls short, and more than happy to go toe to toe in aerial duels. In fact, it was one such encounter that led to Richarlison’s opener. A long throw hoisted into the United box saw Calvert-Lewin easily out jump Chris Smalling, and his deft flick on found its way to the Brazilian, who finished acrobatically. Make no mistake though, Calvert-Lewin was the architect, and once again he showed his selflessness and quality with a wonderful piece of target man play that his side profited from big style.
