COMMENTARY
Several Everton fans fumed on social media over Andre Gomes being handed a three-match ban for violent conduct following his clash with Aleksandar Mitrovic in Saturday’s loss to Fulham. The FA confirmed on Tuesday via their website that Gomes had been retrospectively charged as while the referee didn’t notice his behaviour, video cameras highlighted the incident. While a number of Toffees fans held their hands up and admitted the midfielder deserved having the book thrown at him, they still had a bone to pick. It seems several believed that if a player at a top-six club had done similar, they would have gotten away with it. One fan claimed it was embarrassing that the decision showed a lack of consistency across the board and even blamed pundits for fuelling the problem. While another supporter claimed the FA had an agenda based on this decision to actually punish Gomes. It seems Toffees fans may be right to feel slightly aggrieved following this official announcement, but they go over the top. There has been times where decisions have been too inconsistent across the board and you feel that players had done similar to Gomes and gotten away with it.

Not the wrong call but how come a top 6 player never gets charged retrospectively ever?

Shocking…not the decision but the consistency is not level across the league. It’s embarrassing and the punditry on the main football channels is massively to blame. Not Highlighting issues against their own clubs but jumping all over others. The Niasse dive and now Gomes

Salah done the exact same against Porto and dived again against Chelsea where’s the action there?
