Tottenham should be inspired by Adrian Durham’s claim about their chances in the Champions League even if he can’t avoid taking a dig at them.

The talkSPORT broadcaster backed Spurs to win the Champions League as he pointed out they just need a clean sheet against Manchester City to reach the semi-finals, could cruise against Ajax and were capable of beating Liverpool.

“So Spurs, four good games away from winning the Champions League, all they’ve got to do is keep a clean sheet tonight,” said Durham on talkSPORT (16:06, Wednesday April 17th).

“Then it’s Ajax and that’s a cruise across two legs, then possibly Liverpool in the final, Spurs can beat Liverpool can’t they? Spurs are going to win the Champions League.

“It’s in their own hands.”

Darren Gough then chimed in that it being in Spurs’ own hands is something he had heard before which prompted Durham to fire back to weave a sneaky dig at Tottenham’s expense into his verdict.

“Well it went wrong last time, let’s hope they learn (he emphasised this word) from their mistakes, cause it is definitely in their own hands,” noted the broadcaster.

Durham’s cheap shot at Spurs was clearly directed at the fact he believed that they were more than capable of winning the Premier League this season, something he previously said on talkSPORT, only for them to drop the ball and lose to the likes of Burnley.

Yet despite the broadcaster failing to resist the urge to push the button of Spurs’ fans, the rest of his remarks on the club’s chance in the Champions League show how possible it is for Mauricio Pochettino’s side to lift the prestigious trophy this season.

Spurs have a 1-0 advantage going into the second-leg of their tie with Man City on Wednesday and are more than capable of beating them; and shouldn’t fear either Ajax, Liverpool or even Barcelona if it comes down to it.

Pochettino has a squad packed with talented players so why are they not capable of defying the odds against some of Europe’s best clubs? The fact is Durham is right to speak up their chances and it should inspire Spurs to live up to the hype.
