Man United want to sign Christian Eriksen and make him the central part of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s rebuild at Old Trafford this summer, according to the Evening Standard.

They’re ready to go head-to-head with Real Madrid for the £70,000-a-week star but it won’t be an easy deal.

Tottenham are still hopeful that they can convince Eriksen to sign a new contract and Man United are said to be aware of how difficult it will be to negotiate will Daniel Levy.

If Tottenham do end up selling , the report claims Levy will look for £60million+ for a player they paid Ajax £11million for in 2013. That would see the canny operator bank a £49million+ profit.

OPINION

Tottenham won’t want to strengthen a direct rival and while they want to hold onto Eriksen, they would probably prefer him to go to a club like Real Madrid if he goes. Man City have a policy of not selling to Premier League rivals and it’s a policy that makes total sense with the fierce competition at the top of the Premier League. However, Tottenham can’t afford to let the Eriksen saga rumble on past the summer if the midfielder won’t sign a new contract. He would be a brilliant buy for Man United. Eriksen is exactly the sort of player Solskjaer needs at Old Trafford – no attitude, a great work ethic and bags of talent. They don’t have many players like him at the moment but we can’t see Levy selling to them. Real Madrid were said to have cooled over the deal because of Levy’s tough negotiating stance but if the Tottenham man wants a deal then we’re sure they could be persuaded.
