Real Madrid have cooled their interest in Christian Eriksen, according to the Times.

The reason? They reportedly don’t want to deal with Daniel Levy, after what he put them through when they signed Gareth Bale for £85million in 2013.

The move eventually went through on deadline day despite Real Madrid opening talks months before – and it seems that they’re not keen to go through it all again for Eriksen, preferring to go after Eden Hazard or Paul Pogba instead.

That’s fantastic news for Tottenham who are said to be ready to redouble efforts to get him to sign a new contract.

His current deal runs out in 2020 and the Times claims Spurs won’t countenance letting him run his contract down and leaving for free.

They claim that at £70k-a-week he’s on far less than many of the other Tottenham players.

If Real and their mega-wages are out of the picture, then there’s a much better chance Eriksen stays.

Levy has long been known by his reputation as a fierce negotiator and that’s worked out for Tottenham on many occasions.

And, although one of the world’s biggest clubs not wanting to do business with you could backfire down the line, it’s definitely a huge boost for Tottenham in this instance.
