Leeds United are interested in signing Brentford centre-back Yoann Barbet, according to L’Equipe.

The French newspaper reports on their website that the Whites are among the many admirers for the 25-year-old, with the likes of Championship rivals Norwich and Premier League side Wolves also keen.

The report adds that Ligue 1 duo Montpellier and Angers are also interested in Barbet, whose contract with the Bees expires in June 2019.

Good move for Leeds?

It remains to be seen whether Marcelo Bielsa needs any more centre-backs on the books – so whether this would be a good move is unclear. He has the likes of Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper, Gaetano Berardi and Aapo Halme on the books at the moment, so just where would Barbet fit in? That being said, the 6ft 1in [Transfermarkt] powerhouse will be available for free, so it would be a switch that would be hard to turn down. The Whites have had their fair share of injuries in this area, and he could help alleviate that.

Likely to happen?

Wolves, Norwich, Angers and Montpellier are all interested in Barbet, so securing a move for him will be hard with all of this competition. Yes, he will not cost a penny, but if Norwich do end up being promoted to the top-flight, it is likely that he will be more tempted by a move there – especially if the Whites do not end up getting promoted themselves. This one really hangs in the balance, and it will ultimately be down to the player to decide for himself.
