Sky Sports pundit Don Goodman has blasted Patrick Bamford after his playacting saw Anwar El-Ghazi sent off in the 1-1 draw between Leeds United and Aston Villa at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon.

After Mateusz Klich put the Whites ahead in a controversial manner, a scuffle ensued and Bamford went down clutching his face after a tame coming-together with El-Ghazi.

Klich scored for Leeds even though Jonathan Kodjia was on the ground with an injury and most of the Aston Villa defenders stopped as they assumed Tyler Roberts was going to put the ball out of play.

Bamford then got El-Ghazi sent off with what appeared to be simulation, and Goodman was furious.

“Patrick Bamford should be ashamed of himself as well, let me make that clear,” said Goodman during the commentary on Sky Sports Football on Sunday [01:40pm].

OPINION

Leeds had every right to score the goal that put them ahead because the referee had not stopped play and Kodjia’s injury did not seem at all to be serious. However it was not the most sporting of things to do, which is why Villa players were so incensed after Klich slotted the ball past Jed Steer. Bamford was the culprit of the least sporting thing though because what he did, to get El-Ghazi sent off, was cheating. El-Ghazi’s red card should be rescinded and the EFL need to hand out a punishment to Bamford, who was awful for Leeds on Sunday and had to resort to this in a bid to try and help his side win. It was disgraceful and we do not want to see anything like that on the football pitch. Bamford was woeful away from that incident with El-Ghazi, and should probably be dropped by Marcelo Bielsa in the upcoming matches.
