Tottenham need to invest this summer, there can be no question about that.

Two windows without any acquisitions is pretty much unprecedented for a side pushing for silverware, and while it hasn’t done them any harm in reaching a Champions League semi-final, the squad does look a little threadbare over the course of a 38 game league campaign.

On top of that, there are some positions that look woefully flimsy. Hugo Lloris’ form has been cause for concern for some time now, injuries have left the centre of midfield looking understaffed at times, but it is maybe at right-back where fans have felt most concerned.

Kieran Trippier has taken a fair mount of stick this season, and you can understand why.

The England international has the capability to be a real standout performer for Spurs, but far too often this season he has looked like a liability, and his positional awareness in particular has drawn a lot of criticism.

On Saturday against Manchester City, Mauricio Pochettino went for a more unorthodox option at right-back when he gave the nod to Juan Foyth, and at first, it looked as if he might have been better sticking with the shaky Trippier.

Raheem Sterling am flying out of the gates and showed the Argentine a clean pair of heels early on. After that, however, Foyth rallied and put in a solid, impressive performance out wide.

He was so good, in fact, that his manager must surely be thinking about giving another chance in the near future.

Trippier will be running scared with the £21,500-a-week [Spotrac] youngster chasing him down for a starting spot.
