Anwar El-Ghazi hopes that his red card will be rescinded by the EFL after his controversial sending off in Aston Villa’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United at Elland Road on Sunday.

Stuart Attwell gave El-Ghazi a straight red card after Mateusz Klich’s controversial goal sparked a melee between Leeds and Villa players.

Patrick Bamford and El-Ghazi had a bit of a coming together, but the Leeds forward went down the ground clutching his face despite there not appearing to be any contact made between the Villa ace and the ex-Chelsea player.

El-Ghazi now expects the EFL to rescind the red card.

“Hopefully.. I believe in justice,” he said via his personal Twitter account after a fan told him that he should not be suspended for the upcoming play-offs.

OPINION

El-Ghazi should not have been sent off and hopefully the EFL make the correct decision and overturn Attwell’s call to show the winger a red card. However what the EFL should now do is dish out a ban for Bamford after he successfully deceived a match official. Bamford cheated. He threw himself to the ground, holding his face, even though El-Ghazi didn’t make any contact there. West Brom’s Dwight Gayle was handed a two-match ban earlier this season when he dived to win a penalty against Nottingham Forest and there’s no difference between that and what Bamford did at Elland Road on Sunday. Villa could have lost that game because they went down to 10 men and luckily for them, Bamford was so bad up front for Leeds that he couldn’t find the net. To make up for his woeful performance he cheated, and that needs to be dealt with by the EFL.
