Graham Dorrans’ career at Rangers might not be over as it seems Steven Gerrard is willing to offer the midfielder a chance to prove himself in the final weeks of the season.

The 31-year-old has made just three appearances in all competitions for the Light Blues this term due to a serious knee injury, which led to speculation about his career at Ibrox coming to an end in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider earlier this month, Rangers were ready to offload Dorrans and were even giving thought to going down the avenue of a mutual termination of the midfielder’s contract.

Dorrans signed a three-year deal when he joined the Gers from Norwich for £1.5million in 2017, so he still has over 12 months to go before his contract expires.

While it seemed as though the midfielder’s time at Ibrox was coming to an end, Gerrard’s latest comments have suggested quite the opposite.

The former West Brom star is on the verge of returning from his knee injury and could be handed a shot at redemption before the curtains are drawn on the 2018/19 Scottish Premiership season.

“He is repeating training sessions now which is good to see. The injury is not on his mind anymore which is the key thing,” said Gerrard, as quoted by Rangers’ official website.

“It is probably too soon for him at the weekend [against Aberdeen], but we will look to try and get him some minutes in a reserve game coming up and then we will analyse him, probably in a week’s time to see where he is at.

“He has missed a lot of football and I don’t want to put Graham in when he’s not ready – I don’t think that will be fair on him. He is working extremely hard and pushing himself.

“He has had a frustrating time but, at the moment, he seems to be in a better place than he was two or three weeks ago.”

It appears as though Rangers have made quite the U-turn on Dorrans.

The 11-times Scotland international might have made a rapid recovery from his injury in the last few weeks or has really started to impress in training since it was revealed that Rangers were going to try and get rid of him.

Either way it is great news for him and hopefully seen as a positive by Rangers fans, who will have no doubt wanted to see a lot more from the ex-Livingston midfielder during his time at Ibrox.

Hopefully we do get to see Dorrans make his comeback soon because he must have gone through hell in the last couple of seasons with all the horrible injuries he has endured.
