Injury specialist Ben Dinnery has said that Erik Lamela has seemingly suffered a setback in his return from injury.

Lamela has been out since the Arsenal game at the beginning of March but had been said to be back in training ahead of the Champions League quarter-final against Man City.

His status has changed now and Dinnery, who works as an injury analyst for Sky, ESPN and the Telegraph, among others, said the attacker is now “undergoing assessment” along with Moussa Sissoko.

Dinnery made the claim on his personal Twitter page on Thursday afternoon.

OPINION

Poor Lamela has become the forgotten man at Tottenham, making just eight Premier League starts all season. Lucas Moura has eclipsed him completely with his hat-trick at the weekend and a solid performance last night. It looked like Lamela was on the brink of a return to action at the Etihad last night but he didn’t make the squad and now it looks like he might have taken one step back in his recovery. The sad thing is that Tottenham fans aren’t really that fussed, even with Harry Kane out. In Moura and Son they have two brilliant, quick attackers, capable of destroying any defence. Three goals away at one of the best club teams in the world proved that last night. They’ve also got Fernando Llorente and he offers something different and came through with a scrappy and controversial decisive goal at the Etihad. Would Lamela have played even if was fit? Unlikely and that doesn’t bode well for his Tottenham future with Pochettino probably needing to sell to buy new players this summer.
