Graham Potter has reportedly emerged as a candidate for the Celtic manager’s job, and that would surely be a massive letdown for the supporters of the Glasgow giants.

According to the Scottish Sun, chief executive Peter Lawwell and major shareholder Dermot Desmond are considering a number of managers to succeed Brendan Rodgers in the hotseat at Celtic Park, and Swansea boss Potter is among them.

It is understood that the 43-year-old is an unexpected contender for the top manager’s job in Scottish club football, but there should only be one candidate under consideration right now – and that’s Neil Lennon.

Since returning to Parkhead as the interim manager, Lennon has done a superb job with the Bhoys.

Most managers would have crumbled under the pressure of taking on the burden of trying to seal three trebles in a row, but not Lennon, who led the Hoops to the Scottish Cup final with a 3-0 hammering of Aberdeen on Sunday.

Celtic have ground out some hard-earned wins under Lennon’s second reign as manager at Parkhead, but ultimately, he is doing it with a squad of players that he hasn’t assembled and after taking charge at the end of Rodgers’ spell at the club.

That transition from having Rodgers, who had been at the club for over two and a half seasons, to not having him could have been a disaster for the Bhoys as they try to make history and win a third treble on the bounce, but Lennon has kept the ship steady and has won game after game after game.

Potter on the other hand took charge of Swansea after they were relegated to the Championship, and despite having a decent squad of players, he hasn’t been able to mount a serious challenge to even finish in the play-offs this season.

Celtic fans should be furious with Desmond and Lawwell for wanting anyone but Lennon in charge of their club.

If they do decide to axe Lennon at the end of the campaign, then they would be doing a massive disservice to a Celtic legend.
