BBC pundit Noel Whelan has tipped up Leeds Under-23s manager Carlos Corberan to take over from Marcelo Bielsa.

Talking to Football Insider, Whelan said, “We don’t know what the future holds, one thing for sure, Corberan knows what he’s doing and it’s definitely possible.

“He’s on the bench as well for first team games so he’s got that close relationship with Marcelo Bielsa and, with every player who’s gone into management after playing days, you always take something from a manager.

“There’s no doubt that under-23s is not where he’s going to want to finish his career, he’s going to want to have a taste of the big time and be the number one at a football club. If it is at Leeds I’d have no problem with that.”

OPINION

Leeds fans want Bielsa to stay as long as possible and for good reason – he’s had a massive impact on the club and if they miss out on promotion it won’t be through any fault of the manager. Bielsa has a season-long contract with a guarantee of a second if Leeds get promoted. According to Yorkshire Evening Post journalist Phil Hay, Leeds also have an option of a second season for Bielsa if they stay in the Championship. However, that would depend on the Argentine having the stomach for another season in the Championship. Corberan has done a brilliant job with the Under-23s and progression through to be first-team coach would make a lot of sense.
