OPINION

Aston Villa moved up to fifth place in the Championship with a 2-0 win over Bolton on Friday, a result which has condemned the home side to relegation to League One.

Goals from Jack Grealish and Tammy Abraham in the second half kept Villa’s chances of securing a play-off spot this season alive after a number of missed chances in the first half.

These three points now put Villa firmly in the running to avenge their heartbreak in the play-off final in the last campaign.

Here, This is Futbol has rounded up the three things learned about Villa in their win v Bolton:

El Ghazi can be inconsistent

Anwar El Ghazi was by no means awful in this vital victory, but what this result has told us is that he is one of the most inconsistent players that Villa have at the moment. He cannot seem to maintain his good form over a course of several games, as this match showed that he was a shadow of the player who excelled last weekend. He is no doubt very frustrating to watch when he blows hot and cold, and the fans will certainly have their fingers crossed that he can turn it around next time.

Grealish the star man yet again

Is there anything that Jack Grealish cannot do at the moment? He has been Villa’s best player by a mile recently, and right now, there does not seem to be anything that he cannot do. Villa did not look like that they were dominating in the first half against a struggling Bolton side, but Grealish popped up to save the day and keep their play-off hopes alive. Put it this way, if he is playing like he is now, then he is going to have no problems adapting to the Premier League.

Adomah needs to be axed

Albert Adomah certainly did not have his best game in a Villa shirt during this victory. The mainstay – who has 35 appearances this season – did not look his usual self at all. Dean Smith must wield the axe on the 31-year-old against Millwall next weekend, as he just was not good enough on Friday. If he struggles against a team like Bolton, then that does not bode well in the slightest.
