Leeds United players have nicknamed some of Marcelo Bielsa’s training sessions ‘murderball’ for their intensity and demanding nature, according to the Mirror.

The newspaper claim on their website that the Whites squad have been pushed to the limit by the Argentine’s methods on the training pitch and have given it the brutal nickname, which is the same moniker that wheelchair rugby holds, as a result.

The report also revealed that there has been a games room set up at the training ground due to how long the players are spending there, and that they are weighed every day to monitor their weight.

Opinion

You would know you were in for a tough day’s training if you were told you were going to be taking part in “murderball”, wouldn’t you? There is no doubting that Bielsa’s methods have got the best out of his squad this season, taking a side who finished 13th last season and taking them to the brink of promotion with just a couple of new additions. However, with double and even triple training sessions, not to mention the intense scrutiny from the coaching staff, there is the threat of burnout and perhaps that is why the Whites have fallen off the boil in recent weeks. The hope for Leeds United fans is that their side can rediscover their form before the season comes to an end, otherwise the playoffs are going to end in bitter disappointment. If that is the case, then Bielsa and his “murderball” might not be at Elland Road after the summer.
