OPINION
Leeds fans were glued to the screen this evening, desperately hoping that relegated Ipswich would somehow be able to do them a favour and get something from the game against Sheffield United.
It wasn’t to be and Leeds will now have to win promotion the hard way, through the play-offs, after spending the majority of the season in the top-two.
There’s a negative way and a positive way of looking at this. The positive is that promotion is now back in Leeds’ hands. All they need to do is win three games and they’ll be promoted.
Of course, it’s not that easy to lift yourself when you’ve come so close to automatic promotion, but the players have to do it and they’ll have more chance with the fans behind them.
Leeds fans were completely split while they were watching the Sheffield United game – that Chris Wilder’s men ended up winning 1-0.
Some blamed the lack of activity in January for the position they’re in. Another said Sheffield United and Norwich deserved it. And others looked towards the play-offs and called for #positivity.
One even said that Leeds could still get automatic promotion, although that would involve a wholly improbably goal difference swing.
Here are the best reactions from the Leeds fans:

Watching this Blades game makes me feel sick at the though that we have to go to the playoffs instead. #lufc

WHY .. Too tight to pay for players in Jan, we needed 3 or 4 starters in. Injuries have proven the squad was too light, #lufc

And why didi easter ruin us .. The squad is paper thin and needed an injection of quality in January … Anyting from then onwards is down to lack of vision in the transfer window #lufc

Astute bit of business that signing Hogan in Jan who’s stepped in for Sharp & done the business. Shows value having more than 2 strikers in the squad #lufc

We can’t blame anyone else but ourselves, Ipswich were never going to win tonight ? Let’s just focus on the next five games, win them all and we’ve achieved on our mission this season #BelieveInBielsa #LUFC

Nope, currently we can still mathematically catch them until the last day of the season (assuming we don’t balls up the next two games) #LUFC
