Iain Dowie has claimed that Aston Villa will be in a spot of bother if striker Tammy Abraham was injured for the remainder of their season run-in.

The 21-year-old provided the assist for Jack Grealish to score Villa’s first in their 2-0 win before getting on the scoresheet himself, but Dowie raised concerns over the fact that the 24-goal forward may have “popped his shoulder.”

The Sky Sports pundit says a setback like that could change the whole course of the season for Aston Villa, especially with the form that he is in at the moment.

“Tammy Abraham looked like that he may have popped his shoulder there. If he did, that is a huge blow, as he is in goalscoring form of his life at the moment,” he told Sky Sports News (5.19pm, 19/4).

“It would be a huge blow for them, one thing like that can change the season, in the dressing room itself. If it’s his shoulder, let’s hope it’s not.”

OPINION

The last thing that Villa need at the moment is someone like Abraham getting injured. If he has popped his shoulder like Dowie has speculated, then that could be the end of his season with the club. His goalscoring record suggests that Villa need him more than ever – especially if they are to avenge their defeat in the play-off final from last season. Like Dowie said, he is in the form of his life at the moment, and he could be the difference between them going up or staying put in the Championship. If Villa do end up getting promoted, then perhaps Abraham will want to stay on that little while longer? It remains to be seen just where his future lies at Chelsea, particularly with the talent that they already have there. Many Villa fans will be hoping and praying that the injury is nothing serious, as all the signs are pointing in the right direction for the club at the moment.
