Stan Collymore sent Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings a message on Twitter after the Villans beat Millwall 1-0 on Monday.

The outspoken pundit sent a message to the centre-back, who is on loan from Bournemouth, in order to heap praise on him and share that he personally had been impressed by the progress he had made since the player’s spell at Ipswich Town.

Collymore claimed that Mings was now looking like a capable leader of a team and a quality footballer, so was set to reap the rewards in the near future.

“Fantastic since you came to our club and having watched your progress since Ipswich, injury lows and now looking every bit a leader and quality footballer, you’re reaping the rewards,” wrote Collymore on his personal Twitter account, in responses to Ming’s tweet celebrating the Villan’s latest win.

“Well done Tyrone, superb.

“Up the Villa!”

OPINION

Mings has been tremendous since arriving at Villa Park in January and has become a fan favourite as a result. The 26-year-old centre-back has been a rock at the back and has inspired the team to transform their form for the better. Mings seems able to pick his teammates up when their heads drop and seems able to drive the whole team forward from the back. For this reason it’s no surprise that Collymore is not only willing to gush about his talent but highlights his leadership qualities as well. The Villans’ win against Millwall secured their place in this season’s play-offs and you feel Mings will be very important to his side’s chances of emerging from that tense scenario successfully. While Dean Smith’s side have been in absolutely jaw-dropping form as of late and seem to be the team that no one will want to face, they can’t get over confident about their chances. Mings as well as the rest of his Villans teammates need to ensure they keep their foot on the pedal until a place in the Premier League is theirs.
