Celtic interim boss Neil Lennon signed Mikael Lustig for the club back in 2012, but this season has not seen him soar to new heights.

There is not many Hoops fans who admire the right-back and he only has to breathe wrong in order for the supporters to come crashing down on him like a ton of bricks.

That was the same after the 2-0 win over Hibernian on Saturday, as the fans blasted him left, right and centre for his performance – but that does not come as surprise.

However, it is clear that Lennon is placing his faith in the Swede after the mixed campaign he has had, and having a break seems to have done him the trick – it is like he had a new lease of life last weekend.

The fact that the manager is having confidence in the 32-year-old will not be good news for Jeremy Toljan, will it? He was signed from Borussia Dortmund in January, but Lennon’s preference will definitely have him sweating buckets.

His imminent future at Parkhead does not look too good if this is anything to go by, and the fact that Davie Hay tore into him in the Evening Times does not help his case either.

“I am not sure that he really shows anything that Celtic do not have at their disposal already,” he said.

Hearing this would be a hammer blow to the 24-year-old, as it has just reinforced that he is simply not needed at Celtic anymore.

Lustig looks to be the preferred option, and if he cannot offer anything new to the team, what hope is left for him at the club?

Toljan is no doubt a talented player, but it seems like his signing was pretty pointless when you look back to the recent transfer window.

Either way though, the defender will surely be quaking in his boots about what is to come for him at Celtic in the next few weeks, especially if Lustig is likely to get a run in the team.
