Richard Keys has claimed that the new Tottenham stadium will be called the Nike Stadium.

Keys was talking on the Keys and Gray show live on beINSPORTS (Friday, 11am), when he claimed an inspection was going on today at the stadium.

“Big day in north London, breaking from there, there is a UEFA inspection going on at New White Hart Lane,” Keys said.

“I believe the first league game will be played on April 6 and that stadium, I can exclusively reveal, will be called the Nike Stadium.”

The tweet has since been deleted from the beINSPORTS account.

OPINION

We’re not too sure that Tottenham fans will call it the Nike Stadium, with many preferring New White Hart Lane as an homage to their old ground. It does look like the opening of the stadium is getting closer by the day. The UEFA inspection should clear the way for the Champions League quarter-final to be held there and then there’s just the matter of the two test events. One of these has to be at capacity and that will give Tottenham fans an idea of what it will be like when actual competitive games are played there. It’s looking absolutely incredible and we can’t wait to get a first-hand look. Tottenham fans are in for a treat but they’ve had to be patient. If the test events are a success, and we can’t see Spurs messing them up now, then it will be a greenlight for the first Premier League game in April. Both UEFA and Tottenham will be hoping for an away draw first in the next round of the Champions League.
