Elias Sorensen, Jamie Sterry and Cal Roberts have returned to Newcastle United after having their respective loan spells terminated early, it has been confirmed.

Newcastle announced via their official website and official Twitter account on Wednesday that the three players have made their way back to St James’ Park.

Highly-rated striker Sorensen had been on loan at Blackpool, while Sterry had been at Crewe and Roberts at Colchester.

Newcastle confirm that all three are available to play for the Under-23s in their Premier League Cup clash against Reading on Friday.

OPINION

Newcastle are clearly unhappy with the way that these players have been used by their loan clubs so you cannot blame them for recalling all three of them. Sorensen is the Magpies’ most promising young player but he has made just one first team appearance for Blackpool, with his spell at Bloomfield Road becoming an incredible waste of time. It is best off for the Danish teenager to just keep on playing for Newcastle’s Under-23s than regularly missing out on matchday squads in League One. As for Sterry, it is very worrying that he has been recalled. The defender is 23-years-old, but made just one League Two appearance for Crewe. He surely has no future at St James’ Park after failing to get into a fourth-tier team’s squad. Roberts is 21-years-old and did play a bit more for Colchester than either Sorensen and Sterry did at their clubs. However when they are not playing in the lower leagues, they are better off playing for Newcastle’s Under-23s.
