Newcastle United fans have taken Salomon Rondon under their wings as one of their own during his loan spell from West Brom and will no doubt be hoping the Venezuelan remains at St James’ Park past the summer.

He has led the line exceptionally well for the Magpies and his performances have been instrumental in helping the club to try and seal Premier League football for another season.

However, the Baggies loanee is the only proven talent up top and with Joselu next in line to start – a thought which will strike fear into the hearts of the Toon Army – a new signing in summer, regardless of whether Rondon stays or goes, is an absolute must.

The Chronicle report that Napoli’s Roberto Inglese, currently on loan at Parma, is on Rafael Benitez’s radar and with eight goals in Serie A, he could prove to be a quality signing for the Magpies.

Napoli are of course one of Benitez’s former sides and he will no doubt have had his people in Italy updating him on all the details of the 27-year-old’s capture – including his contract status and asking price.

Called up for Italy in the past, featuring as an unused substitute, Inglese has proven goal scoring talent in the Italian top flight, and the fact he is out of favour at Napoli suggests he could be up for a bargain price.

A lack of Premier League experience might have some worried but the fact of the matter is Benitez will know everything there is about the striker and the Spaniard is rarely wrong.

Inglese could turn out to be absolute gold for Newcastle – if nothing else, he would surely be an upgrade on Joselu.
