OPINION

It was mainly good news from the international break for Steven Gerrard. Talking to Rangers TV, via the Scotsman, Gerrard said the only injury doubt was over Borna Barisic.

The 26-year-old left-back hobbled out of Croatia’s game against Hungary with a hamstring issue and has been described as a “massive doubt” by Gerrard. We’re expecting him to miss out on his second successive Old Firm clash, after having to sit out the 1-0 win at Ibrox, and we think Andy Halliday will retain his spot in the team after playing in the 1-1 draw against Kilmarnock.

We’re expecting Scott Arfield and Ryan Jack to be fit the clash after missing the last Premiership game, but Lassana Coulibaly and Steven Davis are ready to step up if not.

We’re also expecting Joe Worrall to come back into the side after dropping to the bench against Kilmarnock in favour of Nikola Katic. Gerrard still hasn’t properly settled in his best enforcers, but Goldson and Worrall have played the most together this season and that could count for a lot against Celtic.

The rest of the team picks itself but it’s going to be the toughest test of the season so far for Gerrard’s side. They would take a draw on Sunday and a win would be season-defining for them. Rangers haven’t won at Celtic Park in the league since 2010.

The Premiership trophy might have slipped from their grasp but a second successive Old Firm win would be a sign for Gerrard and for Rangers fans that some inroads have been made this season.

This is the starting XI we expect to see from Gerrard on Sunday:
