Rangers centre back Connor Goldson believes that Ibrox hero Alfredo Morelos is the best player in Scotland on current form.

The Colombian has bagged an unbelievable 28 goals already this season, leading many spectators to label him the finest striker in the country – but Goldson believes he’s the best player full stop.

“From the boy I saw in Spain when I first arrived at the club to what he’s turned into – he’s a completely different player,” he told the Daily Record. “That’s down to how hard he’s worked and it’s paid off for him. He’s the best player in the country now – his record speaks for itself.

“Alfredo’s missed a fair few games but he’s scored 28 goals by the end of February. Not many strikers could do that. He’s proven game after game that he’s up there with the best. And I can’t compare him with anyone I’ve played with or against even down in England. Alfredo’s one of a kind.”

OPINION

It’s always difficult to judge who the best player is because each different position requires a different set of skill and so it’s hard to compare. However, on current form it’s tough to think of anyone in Scotland who can compete with Morelos. The amount of goals he’s scored this season is truly staggering and, as Goldson says, he could have scored even more if he wasn’t always missing games through suspension. There’s nobody quite like him at the moment and he’s really come into his own this campaign. Obviously there are a number of excellent players at Celtic as well, from Dedryck Boyata to James Forrest, but no one who is producing the kind of scintillating football that Morelos is at the moment. Rangers have their fair share of top players as well but, again, their Colombian hitman takes the cake. Honestly, with the way Morelos is playing it’s hard to argue with Goldson’s point of view here.
