Make no mistake, Rangers defender Connor Goldson has been rather solid this season after signing from Brighton last summer.

He has made 44 appearances in all competitions for the Gers this season and this comes as no surprise after his dominant displays in the centre of defence.

However, this is exactly why Steven Gerrard will surely be particularly concerned about the 26-year-old’s recent run of form, starting with the 1-1 draw with Aberdeen last Sunday – the defender was absolutely abysmal and his inability to deal with the threat that came his way was rather startling.

He looked a shadow of the player that he is usually is, so Gerrard will no doubt be worried about what is causing his mainstay’s rapid decline in form.

You would have thought that he would have been determined to turn things around against Hibernian on Friday night, but his performance was far from convincing and it no doubt had many fans rather underwhelmed.

As he grew into the game in the second half, some of the Hibs players were causing him some real trouble, and he looked under pressure whenever some danger came in his direction.

Goldson is Gerrard’s first choice, so the fact his form is getting worse is not what he needs right now, especially with the league title still within grasp – as well as the Scottish Cup.

With these trophies at stake for the Gers, the manager will be wondering what action he must take to get Goldson back on track and performing as his old self.

There is no denying the impact he has made on Rangers’ success this season, and there is no denying the fact that he will be a prominent figure within the team until the end of the campaign.

Nevertheless, it is bizarre to see the enforcer play so poorly, especially for the fans.

Alarm bells must be ringing in Gerrard’s head after this recent run of form, as Rangers need him to be on form to achieve some type of success this season.
