Former Stenhousemuir manager Brown Ferguson has joined the Rangers coaching staff, it has been confirmed.

The 37-year-old announced on his personal Twitter account that he is “delighted” and “honoured” to have secured a post in the Glasgow giants’ youth set-up at their Auchenhowie headquarters.

Ferguson claimed it is an “outstanding” academy and he is looking forward to the “exciting challenge” of working with the club’s young players.

OPINION

The appointment of Ferguson is a real coup for Rangers. The former midfielder has excellent experience of the Scottish game at all levels and spent three years as first-team manager of Stenhousemuir until he was surprisingly sacked last November. Despite suffering relegation from League One in 2017, Ferguson led them back up at the first time of asking. Since his departure from Ochilview he has been working with Lowland League leaders East Kilbride. At Rangers, Ferguson will work with some of the best young players in Scotland, and plenty of other rising stars recruited from overseas. His mandate will be to develop them into players capable of graduating into the first team. Rangers have high hopes for plenty of their youngsters, and it is the job of Ferguson and his fellow coaches such as Graeme Murty to get the best out of them and ensure they can make the Ibrox grade.
