Adrian Durham slammed Rangers attacker Jermain Defoe for having little impact at the club since arriving on loan from Bournemouth.

The broadcaster claimed that the veteran forward looks like being a huge disappointment if he is on big money and pointed out that he thought it just hadn’t happened for Defoe at Ibrox.

Durham claimed Gers fans loved Defoe despite his struggles and made the remarks after a supporter texted in to suggest he was the worst signing made by a club in January.

“Defoe to Rangers? That’s an interesting one,” said Durham on talkSPORT (16:38, Tuesday March 9th).

“He has had very little impact and if he is on a lot of money I think he’d be a huge disappointment, but come on (Darren Gough said he’s getting old) his impact has been very little.

“I think the fans have loved him but it’s not just happened for him, they’re out the title race and out the cup so hasn’t had desired effect.”

OPINION

Durham is spot-on with his remarks on Defoe as he hasn’t lit up Ibrox like many hoped. The 36-year-old forward goal scoring record in the Premier League speaks for itself and many thought he’d find it easy playing in Scotland’s top-flight. Yet while Defoe has managed five goals in 12 outings, this stat flatters him. The forward hasn’t looked overly sharp and could have easily had more goals if he snapped up the easy chances he let pass him by. While Defoe does have to play second fiddle to Alfredo Morelos which means he doesn’t overly get a lot of playing time, it’s fair to say he could have done more. It’ll be interesting to see if Steven Gerrard is able to get more out of Defoe in the coming weeks, as just like Durham stands, if he doesn’t, he will just be viewed as another disappointing signing. This is the case even if a large number of Rangers fans do love him.
