Rangers are closing in on two new signings, according to broadcaster and journalist Darrell Currie.

The anchor of BT Sport’s Scottish football coverage reported on his personal Twitter account on Friday night that the Glasgow giants are poised to sign Motherwell left-winger Jack Hastie.

Currie claimed Rangers may also sign versatile Hearts 27-year-old Graeme Shinnie ahead of the summer transfer window.

These are two deals that have director of football Mark Allen stamped all over them. The Rangers recruitment chief has wheeled and dealed expertly in the bargain basement over the last few windows, snapping up proven performers and rising stars whose contracts are about to expire. The Light Blues agreed deals for Scott Arfield and Allan McGregor last year long before the transfer window opened, and then landed Glen Kamara and Jordan Jones on pre-contract agreements in January, with the midfielder subsequently arriving at Ibrox early from Dundee. Allen appears intent on once again finding value in this area of the market, and it is no coincidence that exciting attacker Hastie, 20, is out of contract in the summer, and that left-back Shinnie, who has been playing in central midfield for Hearts this season, is in a similar situation at Tynecastle. Both players would add further strength to a Rangers squad that is being built shrewdly by Allen.
