Image for Stewart: Bain turnaround has been remarkable

Michael Stewart has been mightily impressed by Celtic goalkeeper Scott Bain’s turnaround this season.

He says the turnaround from the 27-year-old has been “far-fetched”, especially as 18 months ago he would told that he would not appear for Dundee again after falling out with Neil McCann. He has now established himself as the Hoops’ number one, something which Stewart says is “one of the most meteoric rises Scottish football has seen for some time”.

Stewart adds that Bain now has the opportunity to establish himself as the number one for Scotland over the next ten days too.

“Scott Bain might want to think about sticking on a EuroMillions ticket at some point soon. The keeper’s luck is such that there’s every chance his numbers will come up. The way Bain has turned his career around has been far-fetched even by Roy of the Rovers standards,” he said in his Scottish Sun column.

“It’s only 18 months, remember, since he was told he’d never play for Dundee again after a bust-up with Neil McCann. For the next three months he was left kicking his heels at Dens but, since then, he has enjoyed one of the most meteoric rises Scottish football has seen for some time.

“Bain impressed against Rangers on his Celtic debut last March. That eventually led to him pulling on a Scotland shirt when we narrowly lost to Mexico in June. And since getting the nod from Brendan Rodgers in January he simply hasn’t looked back. Now over the next ten days he has the chance to establish himself as No1 for club AND country.”

OPINION

Stewart certainly is not the first person to remark on the rise of Scott Bain at Celtic, and he definitely will not be the last. Who can blame them for doing so, though? Bain has been excellent and it is easy to forget where he was 18 months ago. It only takes that one chance to impress, and then suddenly he is the club’s number one and basically on the verge of becoming Scotland’s number one. Quite the turnaround right? However, his form suggests that he is more than deserving of the chances that have come his way recently. Craig Gordon may feel hard done by and rightly so, but there is a reason why previous Hoops boss Brendan Rodgers stuck Bain in between the posts. He felt like he was good enough to take the spot from Gordon, and there is without a shadow of a doubt that he has gone on to prove that.
