Former Dundee player Tam McManus has slammed Celtic for their ‘absolutely atrocious’ performance against his old team on Sunday.

The Scottish Premiership leaders needed a 96th minute winner from striker Odsonne Edouard to steal victory at Dens Park, and it’s safe to say that McManus was less than impressed with the champions’ display.

“Harsh on Dundee would have been a precious and well deserved point,” he wrote on his personal Twitter account after the game.

“Celtic were absolutely atrocious to be honest but yet again find a way to win. Winning mentality. That’s the difference,” he finished.

OPINION

It’s hard to argue with McManus’ point of view, here. Celtic were far from their scintillating best on Sunday. They toiled from start to finish and have to be considered rather fortunate to have come away with all three points. Dundee worked hard and defended well and it must be bitterly disappointing from them to get nothing for their efforts. Neil Lennon will know that his team can and will have to play much better than that moving forward, but at the end of the day they got the win they wanted. It’s become a cliche now, but the ability to win games when playing poorly is what separates the top teams from everyone else. The Hoops possess that quality in spades and they demonstrated that fact once again on Sunday. The Scottish Premiership is probably sewn up for them at this point, but Celtic cannot afford many more displays this poor between now and the season’s end.
