Former Celtic star Joe Ledley has revealed he would love to make a return to the Hoops after leaving Derby County at the end of January.

The 32-year-old Welsh international spent three and a half years with the Bhoys after joining on a free transfer back in 2010 and went on to play 157 times over all competitions.

Out of contract once again after leaving the Rams just over a month ago, Ledley, who worked under new Celtic boss Neil Lennon, has said he would love to have the opportunity to work with the Northern Irish boss once again, with the opportunity to snap him up right away due to his lack of contract.

He told William Hill’s Open Goal: “Obviously I’d love to go back but it has all changed now. New manager, new staff so it has all changed. But you would never say no to a club like that.

“I would love to have the opportunity to work under him (Lennon) again. 100 per cent. Him and Chris Coleman. They are different, but for me, Lenny was just an absolute laugh to be with.

“He was determined to win just as much as the players. He was just an absolute gentleman.”

Opinion

Ledley was once a firm favourite of the fans in Glasgow and at 32-years-old there should be no reason he could not return to do a job in the middle of the park once again. Yes, his lack of game time in recent months mean he will need to get up to speed but a man of his experience, who was playing Premier League football two seasons ago and regular Championship football during the last campaign, surely has enough in his locker to return to Scotland and make a difference. There is obviously no guarantee that Lennon is looking for any new recruits but the lack of midfield talent at the club right now might tempt him to look around. Ledley is a man with a great pedigree and should the Celtic boss feel he needs an extra body in the middle of the pitch between now and the end of the season, he could do a lot worse than bringing the Welshman back.
