OPINION
Kieran Trippier’s reputation among Tottenham fans has nosedived following a series of poor performances, culminating in that dreadful own goal against Chelsea last week. Monday’s key development that Mauricio Pochettino has left the 28-year-old behind in London and he has not travelled with the squad for the Champions League showdown against Borussia Dortmund in Germany is proof of how his stock has also fallen among the coaching staff. The revelation at Pochettino’s media conference on Monday evening was met with celebratory responses from plenty of Spurs fans, who claim the small problem with the right-back that the manager alluded to is that he “isn’t a very good footballer” and has emerged as a “liability” at a key juncture in the campaign. While that is harsh, and partly a reflection of the downturn in Trippier’s form rather than his actual pedigree, there is real concern about the full-backs in the Tottenham squad. They are all decent, but none are great.
