Celtic must swoop for Balogun

Celtic need to make a few signings this summer to ensure that they are fit and raring to go next season, there is no doubt about that.

One position that they really need to strengthen in is the centre-back position. It is a role that will likely be weakened when the likes of Filip Benkovic return back to Leicester City this summer, and well as Dedryck Boyata’s contract running out.

So who do they turn to? They need a quality defender, and they must look no further than Brighton centre-half Leon Balogun. At the moment, he is third choice behind the likes of Lewis Dunk and Shane Duffy at the Amex, so he is likely getting frustrated with his lack of minutes.

He has featured in a few of the Seagulls’ FA Cup ties this season, one of them being against West Brom earlier in the competition. The 30-year-old looked assured in his role, and did not seem fazed by the fact that he does not have much game time under his belt. He has also taken the place of Dunk while he was injured, and he has demonstrated then that he is a quality defender.

This is why the Hoops must swoop for the out-of-favour player this summer. He is by no means a down grade on what they already have, and he no doubt wants to get more regular match time. At Parkhead, that would basically be guaranteed, and the Celtic fans would be elated with a player like him coming through the door.

The enforcer is not going to usurp the likes of Dunk and Duffy any time soon, so what is the point in him staying on the South Coast? Answer – absolutely no point.

Peter Lawwell would be onto a winner if they signed Balogun, so when the window closes, they must swoop for him quickly.
