Former Arsenal striker and current Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith has been left drooling over the signings that Wolves have made and heralded how they have nearly all been a success this season.

The Molineux outfit made a number of high profile signings in the summer of 2018 as they prepared for a return to the Premier League with a mix of new arrivals and familiar faces as they turned loan deals permanent.

Picking out a quartet of the current squad, Smith was blown away by the impact made as Nuno Espirito Santo’s men push for a top seven finish and a place in the FA Cup final.

He told Sky Sports’ The Debate (19/03, 22:00): “For Wolves it would be a magnificent achievement as a newly promoted side. Yes, they have spent money but the recruitment there by Nuno has been just spectacular.

“You look at (Raul) Jimenez, (Diogo) Jota, Jonny and (Leander) Dendoncker, who’s a really good young player – most of the lads they’ve bought have been a great success and it doesn’t always happen.”

Opinion

Rivals of Wolves might say that the manner in which the club has been bankrolled by their multi-millionaire owners has resulted in their success this season and it would be hard to argue against that. However, as proven by the likes of Fulham, you cannot just throw money at your problems and hope for them to go away. The spending has been smart and the players brought in to Molineux have all made a difference to the side, no matter how big or small that might be. The likes of Adama Traore might not have lived up to expectation but then again no one could have seen Raul Jimenez turning into the attacking force he has done. There is a great balance about the side and Nuno, regardless of how much input he might have had into the recruitment process, has worked wonders to get his side to where they are. The only way is up – or so fans would hope – and there could even be some silverware to celebrate come the end of the current campaign.
