Kieran Trippier will be axed from the England team for their Euro 2020 qualifier against Czech Republic tomorrow night, according to the Times.

The newspaper claim the Tottenham right-back will be overlooked for the Wembley showdown in favour of Manchester City’s Kyle Walker.

Trippier has admitted this week he has been in poor form of late as he he prepares to sit on the bench despite the unavailability through injury of Trent Alexander-Arnold.

OPINION

This is quite a fall from grace for Trippier after his memorable World Cup summer, when he was a key player in Gareth Southgate’s side that upset the odds and scored a brilliant free-kick in the semi-final. Not that the right-back can complain too much. He has been pretty wretched all season – just ask Spurs fans tearing their hair out at so many iffy performances – and by his own admission has been below par. When professional footballers, who rarely admit to weaknesses, open up in that way, you know for sure they are well below their best. Many England fans claim Trippier was lucky to be Southgate’s squad for the forthcoming internationals, claiming he was well behind not only Alexander-Arnold and Walker, but also Crystal Palace’s rising star Aaron Wan-Bissaka. Tripper is not only sweating over his international place, but he faces a battle to hang on to his Spurs spot.
