Tottenham duo to miss out v Saints

|

Two of Tottenham’s midweek heroes are set to be omitted from the starting XI for today’s (Saturday) Premier League showdown against Southampton, according to the Guardian.

The national newspaper’s predicted line-up for Spurs features nine of the side that secured a memorable 1-0 Champions League win against Borussia Dortmund in Germany to qualify for the quarter-finals of the competition.

The Guardian report Ben Davies and Harry Winks are set to miss out at St Mary’s Stadium, with Danny Rose and Eric Dier returning to the side.

OPINION

Win, lose or draw, Mauricio Pochettino is never afraid to rotate his starting XI and make the tweaks that can provide his side with the best possible chance of a victory. The club’s never-ending injury list means Winks could miss out at St Mary’s after he was substituted at Dortmund with a groin injury. That could mean Dier making his first league start in three months, and a break-up of the burgeoning little-and-large central midfield partnership of Winks and Moussa Sissoko. Dier and Sissoko won’t have any problems with a physical battle against the Saints, although Winks’ mobility and tidy distribution will be missed. At left-back, Pochettino frequently rotates Rose and Davies, with the former regarded as more effective on the overlap and the Welshman a better defender. Rose was one of Spurs’ better players in the north London derby and his quality on the ball and bombing forward could prove critical as his side look to end a memorable week on a high.
