Mauricio Pochettino will leave Tottenham if Real Madrid come in for him over the summer, according to Chris Sutton.

The Argentine oversaw his side scrape a 1-1 draw with bitter rivals Arsenal on Saturday lunchtime, leaving Spurs seven points behind second-placed Manchester City.

Speaking on Saturday Sav, when asked if Pochettino had taken the club as far as he could, Sutton was quick to refute the suggestion.

He said: “Don’t be ridiculous, no he hasn’t. He needs to win something, of course he hasn’t.

“But if Real Madrid come in over the summer, he’ll be off.”

OPINION

Sutton is right. Pochettino will not feel that his job is done at Tottenham until he wins something, but realistically, that isn’t going to happen unless a significant level of investment poured into the club in the near future that has been lacking in the recent past. You wouldn’t be able to blame Pochettino if he were to walk away from the club should a big offer come in from one of Europe’s elite, but there would be a real feeling that this has been a missed opportunity for Spurs. They have had so many great chances to lift some silverware under Pochettino, but time and time again they have stumbled at the last hurdle. This side can go further, and perhaps they should have done already, but until they finally put a trophy in the cabinet, they will continually be dogged by that reputation they have garnered as bottle jobs.
