It is always a fixture that promises drama and entertainment, and on Saturday afternoon, Tottenham’s clash with Arsenal lived up to that.

With two penalty decisions, a sending off and a match saving effort from Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, it is safe to say that both sets of fans were thoroughly entertained.

However, there is no doubt that the majority of the fan base will not be pleased in the slightest with how defender Davinson Sanchez performed in the 1-1 draw.

While he was not absolutely hopeless – some his defensive work was decent – he demonstrated what a liability he is by giving Arsenal a penalty and making a mess of the clearance in the lead up to Aaron Ramsey’s goal.

He has proved that he is not yet the finished article, and this is no doubt a cause for concern for boss Mauricio Pochettino, as the 22-year-old has been pretty solid all season.

It may seem rather harsh, but the best thing he can do for their upcoming Champions League tie against Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday is ruthlessly wield the axe on Sanchez, because he could end up costing them a place in the quarter-finals of the competition if he made the same mistakes that he did on Saturday afternoon.

This is the last shot Spurs have at winning a trophy this season and the last thing they would want to do is surrender the 3-0 lead they have by fielding a player who is likely to mess up and make a costly error.

Sanchez has excelled when playing in between Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld this season, but he has demonstrated that he cannot be relied upon as the last line of defence at times.

It is clear that he still has a lot of learning to do, so Pochettino must be bold and axe the £60,000-a-week [Spotrac] player for Tuesday’s match.
