Paul Robinson heaped praise on Tottenham attacker Harry Kane and highlighted how he had made so much progress at the club.

The former Spurs keeper stated that he now thought the 25-year-old forward was the finished article as he had proven that he could score goals at the highest level, and that this made it easy to forget that he had been loaned out in his early Tottenham career.

Robinson claimed that Kane had added so much more to his game to be more than just a goalscoring threat and backed the forward to have a very long career where he will break all sort of records.

“He is the finished article now I think, there were questions of scoring goals whether he could do it again and he has proven that he can do it at the highest level and I think you look at the stats, you forget he went out on loan in his early Tottenham career,” said Robinson on Football Centre (Sky Sports News, Monday March 11th, 12:09).

“He was a very young player when I was there, y’know put out on loan and learnt his trade.

“Not at that age (did he know he would be this good) that’s probably why the club sent him out on loan, learnt his trade, and he has been patience, worked hard, I know he has worked very hard on his finishing.

“And to achieve the levels he has, at his age, he’s got a very long career and he’s going to break all kind of records going forward, but he’s so important to this Tottenham team.

“With him missing, Son missing, Dele Alli missing, they struggled and it just shows how much more he has added to his game.

“He turns, he runs at defenders, he is so much more than just a goal scoring threat.”

OPINION

It’s actually jarring to hear someone talk about how much work Kane has put in to evolve as a player, as given that he makes it look so easy these days, people take his impressive development for granted. The forward, who has scored 24 goals this season, is clearly among the world’s best forwards and could still arguably get better. Robinson may think Kane is the finished article now but when you consider he is only 24-year-old, you can’t rule out him continuing to improve. That’s a scary thought as he ticks a lot of boxes as it is. While Kane is destined to have an amazing career, Spurs fans will just be concerned that it’s with their club. The 24-year-old clearly is a driven individual and he will want to win trophies on a consistent basis sooner rather than later. Mauricio Pochettino’s team have gone close in recent seasons but have failed to get their hands on some silverware, and Spurs fans will likely believe that this needs to be addressed soon in order for Kane’s head not to be turned.
