Tottenham chief Daniel Levy has confirmed that the club are ready to sell players to boost their funds for new signings if they can find replacements for those players when probed about the side’s struggles in the transfer market.

The Lilywhites have not see a single new player through the door in north London over the last two transfer windows, with Brazilian winger Lucas Moura the last arrival at the club back in January 2018.

Asked at the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust meeting with the Parkhead board about the difficulties faced at signing players, Levy confirmed the club would be ready to sell their players if they could find a better replacement.

The notes read: “There is a certain amount the Club wants to invest in the team. If players are sold, that amount increases. DL (Levy) said that transfers were tricky. If we could have sold XYZ and found someone better, we would have done it

“DL said he was disappointed that the market was not as liquid as it had been previously. DL also stressed the requirement for Tottenham’s squad to include more homegrown players. There were squad limits and we had reached the maximum for overseas players.”

Opinion

There will be many fans wondering just who Levy was talking about when referencing potential sales. Surely the likes of Fernando Llorente and Vincent Janssen – two strikers who have made minimal to no impact in north London during their time at the club – could have been sold on and a replacement been found? Could the Spurs chief be discussing the likes of Christian Eriksen and Toby Alderweireld instead? The duo are two important players who both have serious doubts hanging over their futures in north London but replacing them is going to be no easy task. It seems there will definitely be a focus on trying to snap up exciting British talent to help ease the issue of overseas players. Who that could be, only the transfer team in north London will know but there are definitely a handful of candidates who could fit the bill for Levy.
