Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has heaped praise on the Toon Army’s frontline after their stunning 3-2 comeback against Everton.

Ayoze Perez scored a brace and set up Salomon Rondon’s opener for the Magpies – and Miguel Almiron impressed again – as the Geordies came storming back from being two goals down at half time.

Taking to Twitter after the match, Toon hero Shearer was quick to sing the trio’s praises.

Replying to a tweet, he said: “Agreed. They all were brilliant in then 2nd half.”

OPINION

If ever a performance deserved a gushing endorsement from a club legend, it was this one. After a simply terrible first half in which the Toon Army looked punch drunk and shellshocked, Rafa Benitez’s side came out after the interval and put in an absolute masterclass. The biggest difference in quality of performance could be seen in United’s front three, however. Ayoze Perez in particular was borderline useless in the first half, while Salomon Rondon was isolated, and Miguel Almiron looked flimsy. After the interval, however, all three looked lively and Perez, who had been widely lampooned up until that point, pulled out a stellar display that saw him bag a brace and set up the third. No wonder Shearer was quick to hail the trio, and he, like every single other Newcastle fan in the country, will be absolutely buzzing with one of the most unlikely and feel good wins of the Benitez era.
