Newcastle United manager Rafa Benitez has admitted that he is not happy with Elias Sorensen’s playing situation at Blackpool.

The Danish youth intentional has barely featured for the Seasiders since making a loan move to the League One club in January, and was left out of their match day squad again for their last match.

Speaking in a press conference, as quoted by the Chronicle, Benitez said: “It’s something difficult for me.

“Ben (Dawson) dealt with them (Blackpool) and I thought it was more clear for the lad but you need to know exactly what is going on to have an opinion.

“I’m not happy with the fact that he was not playing games, but at the same time I don’t know what was going on when we did the deal.”

OPINION

The situation surrounding Sorensen must be massively frustrating for Rafa Benitez and the player himself. There’s no doubting that the young Dane is a hugely exciting prospect, but if he isn’t getting game time then he can’t develop at the rate that he is expected to. At this rate, it would make more sense for Sorensen to return to his parent club and play regular U23 football like he was towards the beginning of the campaign. The time was right for him to make the step up to senior football, and it must be eating away at him knowing that he is sitting on the bench when he could be out there affecting games and making a name for himself. His time will come, but it won’t be at Blackpool, and this has arguably set him back a few months on his career path. The sooner he is out of there the better.
