Manchester City winger Raheem Sterling has sent a congratulatory message to Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish after the midfielder’s match winning display against Birmingham City.

In a clash marred by a disgraceful attack from an individual from the stands on Grealish, the Villa man scored the only goal of the game, drilling home low and hard to seal victory on derby day.

Reacting on his personal Twitter game after the game, Sterling sent a message to the Villans’ hero, saying: “Karma at its best. Well done Jack Grealish.”

Opinion

The amount of mental strength shown by Grealish was quite remarkable after a deplorable attack from someone from the Birmingham City stands and it was written in the stars that he would score the winner. Sterling is someone who has come under attack – more through the media and verbal abuse from fans – so he knows exactly what it takes to overcome such difficulties and be a star. It is always good to see rival players applauding the performances of other professionals and there is clearly respect and admiration from Sterling towards Villa’s derby day hero. The Villans should not worry about Sterling’s comments drawing interest from City in a transfer to the north west – Grealish is good, not that good – but the fact that he is catching the eye of star men in the top flight means he is definitely interesting scouts from Premier League sides too. This was a day on which Grealish will have impressed many up and down the country.
