A new contract for Swansea City’s Daniel James will not impact Leeds United’s hopes of snapping up his signing in the summer as the Swans chiefs look to sell, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

The Sun reporter claims on his personal Twitter account that while there are a number of elements which will play a role in the Whites’ pursuit of the one cap Welsh star, a new contract would not matter with the Swansea owners keen to cash in on his sale.

The news will come as a boost to Marcelo Bielsa and his transfer team, who missed out on James in the January window despite reportedly coming incredibly close to getting him over the line.

Opinion

James certainly seemed to be Leeds’ number one target during the winter window and so to hear that a new contract at Swansea City will do nothing to stop him from departing will be music to their ears. He has been hugely impressive in the Championship this season and while Leeds might be preparing for a season in the Premier League, if their promotion bid all goes to plan, they might well be willing to give the one cap winger a chance to prove himself in the top flight alongside the current squad at Elland Road. Of course a lot can change in football over the next couple of months and so there will be nothing set in stone any time soon, but it does appear that if Leeds want James they should have little to no trouble in getting his capture over the line when the summer does come around.
