Liverpool have opened talks with Harry Wilson and his representatives about his next move as they look to secure a Premier League club for him next season, according to Goal.

The football site claim sporting director Michael Edwards has been in discussions with Leicester City counterpart Eduardo Macia about a potential switch to the King Power Stadium but Brendan Rodgers’ arrival has scuppered any deal.

Goal report Liverpool are eager for the 21-year-old attacker, who they now value at more than £20million, to get playing time at a top-flight club after thriving at Derby County this season.

OPINION

Wilson is a young player with the potential to be an absolute star. He has made a huge impact at Championship level, first at Hull City in the second half of last season and then in the Premier League this campaign. Used on both flanks and in his current central attacking midfield role, Wilson has scored 12 goals from 35 matches this season, 10 of which have come in the league. Some of those strikes have been memorable ones, including that jawdropping free-kick against Manchester United in the League Cup. Capped eight times by Wales, Wilson is an exciting talent who has the touch, skill and inventiveness to make a mark in the Premier League. He is not yet ready to compete with Mohamed Salah and company for a place in Jurgen Klopp’s side, and a campaign at a mid-table Premier League outfit next season would be ideal for the next stage in his development.
